A LONDON STEAL

Usurping Steals Across the Captial.

The Weekly Steals 1st Feb-9th Feb

Every week we make a nice package of steals for Spindle Magazine, and this is the conclusion I came to this week:

We have come to the end of January, a month notoriously known for its rather miserable existence. And the thing is, there are a number of highs we are coming down from in this initial month of the year; the ludicrous spending, uncontrolled scoffing of the face and of course and the inevitable ‘new year, new me mantra.’ In January you are poor, you’re back to the routine and the majority of us are failing at accomplishing all of our new years resolutions. (I have faith in you, and I’m sure some resolutions are going well, but lets be realistic, you’re starting to crumble). What? You’re feeling a negative vibe from me? Nooooo, I’m putting you down so I can give you the good news! January is over, February is here, as am I to make sure you kick off Feb, not like a pleb, but like the stealer you are. I’m looking after your pocket and nothing in this weeks steals is over £3. You’re welcome.

I have jam packed your Saturday and I have you sorted from morning to night.

Since you’ll be feeling all fresh and moisturized you may want to show off your glowing skin and head down to Bar Rumba where they are hosting a charity gig for Cancer Research which goes on from 3-7pm.  Not only is it a wonderful cause, but you will also presence some great music: Pete Cogavin, Joe Fox, Lee Olivier-Hall and Omarose will be headlining.  (We will be featuring an interview with Omarose soon so watch this space)Entry fee is FREE, but you of course will have the option to donate to Cancer Research should you want your soul to glow as much as your Daisy Anai treated skin.

Sunday 2nd of February is one of the biggest celebration of the year, especially if you’re Chinese because it is of course, Chinese New Year!!! Which means parade and celebrations in China Town and Leicester Square!!!

Us stealers love a good street party because the streets are FREE and they belong to us, the people! Keep it simple and keep it outside because all restaurants will be to the brink of people and prices will not be stealer friendly that is for sure.

Just so you know, 2014 is the Year of the Horse. This is relevant to you if you were born in 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990 or 2002. Or if you’re having a baby this year then it will also belong to a ‘horse’ year. ‘Horse’ year people are cheerful, skillful with money, perceptive, witty, talented and good with their hands. There you go, that can be your conversation starter when you’re in a queue waiting to purchase some spring rolls, Peking duck, beef in black bean or whatever you fancy at the time.

So you have music, plus you have a beauty steal in there too! And a party! I appreciate you might need some time to wind down and what better place to chill out than in a dark room. Stop those filthy thoughts! I’m talking cinema. I’m specifically referring to the Coronet Cinema in Notting Hill Gate. Every Tuesday you can watch any film for £3.50! Plus you have weekday matinees for £4.50, every weekday! From 31st Jan till the 6th Feb you can watch American Hustle or August: Osage Country. Or both!

But as I always say, you must never leave out art. That is why I am drawing your attention to he Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery. It ends 9th of Feb and is only £3 entry (£2 concessions) and well worth every penny. This year the competition attracted 5,410 submissions by 2,435 photographers ranging from amazing amateurs and talented students to full on established professionals.

The exhibition shows you sixty new portraits by some of the most exciting contemporary photographers from around the world.

And just a quick note, if you become a member of the Gallery you enjoy free, priority and unlimited entry to all exhibitions as well as a range of other benefits for just £40 a year. And that, I think is a stealer price for all those art lovers.

There it is, your weekly steals for this week. Have fun, enjoy the city and please do come up and say hello if you see Elle, Chi or myself at any of these events.

Don’t forget to get your music fix with me, Rue, by tuning in to my radio show @LDNStealRadio Saturdays 12-2pm on @Hoxton_FM We go back on air Saturday 8th Feb with an interview from UK based rapper Antix plus we’re playing his new single ‘Bad Dreams’ Don’t miss it!
