If you’re going to wear shoulder-pads and/or a very bright jacket and you live in London where blazers are predominately black do it with panache! Then be very careful what you put with your purchase to avoid looking like a bad 80s music video – keep it modern. Or better keep it post-modern.
Wear with a perspex bag (though if you’re anything like me – the inside of your handbag is a teaming mass of chaos, business cards, magazine cut-outs, lipsticks and pencil shavings that really shouldn’t be shared with the general public). I am also not a fan of adding many other neon colours to the mix. The rule is the more famous you are the more bright colours you can wear in public – for the rest of us, prints can modernize the bold jacket look but keep them basic-coloured – we are not playing sartorial Pokemon. You do not need to wear them all.

I prefer vintage bright jackets to the brighter than bright flimsy ones you can pick up on the high street. Head to the Seven Dials behind Covent Garden (http://www.sevendials.co.uk/) in London and wander round their vintage stores for some Steals.
